WRITTEN BY ALESSANDRA CHIARLO
After the success of his last book 1999, Iacopo Pasqui is working on a new photographic series entitled Il Castigo. The project, still in development, is inspired by the story of the original sin and can be seen as the artist’s escape from his last works, a new chapter of creativity.
Pasqui’s delicate imagery recalls the aesthetic of the american photography, in fact, he admits to get inspiration by the independent american movies’ atmosphere. Another source of inspiration for him are his personal sensations: a single word, an image or a feeling can be a starting point.
In Il Castigo the dawn of creation, the Eden, the Man and the Woman, the temptation and the judgement are mixed with a drizzle of irony and translated in a modern language.
The series is a multi-layer project: a study about today on the track of an old myth, a visual narrative suspended between reality and illusion and also between evidence and hallucination. The series offers a critical analysis about the human condition, his alleged intellectual supremacy on other species and his selfishness which leads him to be the real castigator of all the human race. In the author’s work, the subject finds himself in a never-ending solitude that forces him to look at the mirror and deal with himself.
Iacopo Pasqui, solid, visionary, young and talented, leads us from the dawn of a new beginning to the dusk of all the beauties.
